What are the EWI3000 and EWI3000m?
These units have been discontinued. The Akai EWI4000s is the current model. The EWI3000/EWI3000m combination includes the EWI3000 woodwind style wind controller and dedicated EWI3000m analog synth module. The synth module is voltage-controlled, and it also has MIDI IN and MIDI OUT. The controller is basically sax-like, with a number of alternate fingerings, and it includes eight metal octave rollers. The mouthpiece is tubular and rubber and nothing like that of an acoustic single-reed woodwind; it contains a bite sensor that controls vibrato. The controller can be used with or without a plug that prevents air from flowing through the instrument. All keys are non-movable touch sensors, and there is a touch sensor sensitivity adjustment. The sensors may fail to operate cleanly with extremely dry hands so a bottle of Glycerine or even a Chapstick can be used to moisturize the fingertips when needed. The right thumb rests on a grounding plate, above and below which are pitchbend up and dow
