What are the “evil features” that would make an SKS carbine illegal?
There is much confusion that stems from the fact that there is more than one “ban” and hence more than one “evil features list”: One from July 6, 1989 (which was later modified in 1998) and the 1994 Assault Weapon Ban. The 1989 Ban applies just to imported rifles. An imported rifle is any rifle that contains more than ten imported parts. The 1994 AWB applies to US-made rifles as well. When folks talk about “evil features” they could mean either. To help eliminate some of this confusion, this FAQ will refer to features restricted by the 1989 ban as “restricted features”, and features prohibited by the 1994 AWB as “evil features”.
