What are the essentials of rainwater harvesting?
A single rain water harvesting unit can be attached to one home and the storage tank can be connected by multiple units (A great way to reduce the cost!!). A unit collects the rainwater for domestic home use or redirection to a recharge pit. Whether the unit is large or small is made up of seven basic components. a. Catchments Area/Roof or the surface upon which the rain falls. b. Gutters and Downspouts, the transport channels from the catchments surface storage. c. Leaves and debris filtering unit d. First rain flushing unit, collects dusts and debris e. Storage tanks or Cisterns, where collected rain water is stored. f. Water treatment such as chlorination and filter equipments g. Conveying, the delivery system for the treated rainwater, either by gravity or pump.
