What are the environmental problems caused by transporting crude oil?
Apart from the obvious one of the propulsion unit of the ship producing pollution, not much. The point about oil spills is a little erroneous, crude oil if spilt will start to evaporate quite quickly and as crude is what occurs in nature, there are no real long term effects of a spill, think Milford Haven in 1996, a spill occurred in February, the beaches etc were open for tourists in the summer of that year. Oil is a natural product and eventually most of it will have been broken down by micro-organisms in the water.
