What are the environmental impacts of the new process?
* Reduced air emissions – SITA-MediCollect treats approximately 70% of the biohazard waste via the Matrix process, thus greatly reducing air emissions. * Lime is the Primary ingredient in this process. * No liquid discharges because the Matrix (high alkaline) system is a closed circuit. * Low energy demands compared with incineration and therefore greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced. * The final product is stable, inert, rendered unrecognisable and requires no special disposal for landfill sites. * The final waste product is classified as being of no risk to public health. * The new process will not increase noise from the SITA-MediCollect site and odour emissions are controlled to a minimum.
