What are the environmental benefits in not using envelopes?
With the HP authorized retail recycling pilot program, customers have the convenience of recycling their HP print cartridges during their next trip to Staples. At the same time, HP is reducing the amount of material required to return cartridges by ensuring that more cartridges are consolidated prior to shipment, rather than being transported individually. For example, if all cartridges returned via in-box envelopes in 2008 were returned in bulk collection boxes from authorized retail recycling locations instead, HP estimates a reduction in the amount of shipping materials totaling more than 600,000 pounds enough to fill more than 15 tractor trailers.1 Additionally, transport efficiency may be improved as cartridges shipped in bulk can be packed more tightly than those shipped individually with twice as many cartridges fitting in the same amount of space.
