What are the environmental and sustainability aspects of GRC panels. I can see many advantages of the system but id there any information regarding the carbon footprint of GRC panels?
A. This is a very topical issue and as such we hope that more comprehensive information will be available in due course. At present there is a limited amount of prepared information, principally the ‘Environmental Report’. This is a study of particular product area, cable ducting and drainage channels, but we believe it is illustrative of the general position and the findings can also be applicable to GRC panels. The main advantages of GRC elements in these respects can be summarized as: Low weight compared to alternative products such as precast concrete or cast stone. This leads to benefits of: · Economy of delivery (more items per truckload). This has a direct bearing on carbon footprint. · At installation, for smaller items manual lifting may be possible, or light hoisting equipment only needed. · Building structure and foundations can be lighter for GRC panels than for heavier concrete panels.
