What are the environmental and energy saving efficiency benefits of heat pumps?
Heat pumps offer one of the lowest-carbon footprint solutions for heating any building. Unlike conventional boilers, there is no on-site pollution and as the electricity grid gets cleaner, and more renewable electricity is brought on line, so the carbon footprint of heat pumps will fall even further. Most electricity suppliers are also now offering ‘clean green’ electricity from a renewable energy source and, if you use this, your property will be totally heated from renewable energy and benefit from a carbon neutral heating status. Heat pumps have no flue, pilot light, flammable fuels or tanks; and no toxic exhaust gases. There is also no additional transportation pollution from Oil or LPG tanker deliveries. As heat pumps can last up to five times longer than a conventional boiler and the essential ingredients are copper and steel, the comparable production energy is very low.
