What are the English language requirements for admission to the University of Leeds?
If English is not your first language, you will need a recognised English language qualification to gain admission to the University. The minimum English language standard at Leeds is IELTS band score 6.0 (with not less than 5.5 in listening and reading and not less than 5.0 in speaking and writing); or paper based TOEFL 550 (with 4.0 on the Test of Written English TWE); or computer based TOEFL 220 (with an essay rating of 4.0); or internet-based TOEFL iBT 83 (with at least 18 in listening, 20 in reading and speaking and 21 in writing). Please note that some Schools require a higher level of English than the standard admission requirement. Please check with the School for guidance. You can apply for admission prior to taking one of the tests. If you meet the other requirements for admission, you would be given a conditional offer of a place and you would need to meet the IELTS/TOEFL requirements before you can be admitted to the programme of study.
