What are the effects of trekking at altitude?
The Borneo Cup challenge has the added challenge of trekking at altitude. Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) can begin to affect trekkers over 3000m so when trekking you are advised to go slowly and enjoy the changing scenery and views so that you acclimatise and are in better shape for the final trek up to the highest point (4,101m). On each trek experienced guides will be on hand to advise you about AMS. Unfortunately, there is no way of predicting how this may affect each individual. Plenty of time is allowed to get between the camps so you do not need to rush; the best advice for trekking at altitude is to walk steadily and slowly.
