What are the effects of lsd and mdma on your heart?
MDMA is in a class of hallucinogenic drugs that are referred to as amphetamine like because its core structure is very similar to amphetamine and methylamphetamine. It is a CNS stimulant and a vaso constrictor, and will have a pronounced effect on your heart rate and blood presure. It has a variety of other effects as well which deal with nuerotransmitters and multiple sites of activity. LSD similarly has many actions on the CNS and one result is increased heart rate and blood pressure, but is structurally very different from MDMA. Ethanol is actually considered a CNS depressant. The apparent stimulant effect on heart rate is attributed to “the unrestrained activity of various parts of the brain that have been freed frominhibition as a result of the depression of inhibitory control mechanisms.” Quote is from “The Pharmacological Basis Of Therapeutics” Sixth Ed.
