The following requirement applies to child care facilities under the auspices of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services: The minimum requirements for a director of a licensed child care center are two years of college with 18 semester hours in Early Childhood Education (courses which deal with child care or development from birth to age six). Harper College is an entitled program for the Illinois Director Credential. A specialized area of study for directors is included in the associate in applied science degree in Early Childhood Education.
