What are the economic aspects of the gulf coastal plains of Texas?

the economics of the Gulf coastal plains in east Texas is not too good considering all the hurricanes flooding into the gulf this season. Between Brownsville and Port Arthur there is very little developed land so farming and ranching are about the only industries making any money. Once past Port Arthur and Arkansas there is nothing, I mean nothing except one long, long road . Check satellite photos on Google maps. In fact there is so much vacant land in the U.S. it amazes meon my many trips between L.A. and N.Y.C. I try and travel differant routes if possible. Well anyhow if your looking to make money stay away from Texas’ gulf coast.
