This early phase is like foreshadowing in a story because it suggests to us what might happen and that we need to pay special attention. It is known as the prodromal phase, or warning stage. Symptoms during this phase may be quite obvious or hardly noticeable. They are apt to appear and disappear, and can occur over a matter of days or months.
