There are two types- invasive cardiovascular technologist and noninvasive cardiovascular technician. Invasive technologists assist the doctors during diagnostic and interventional procedures. They shave and clean patients, and set up tables and drape patients aseptically. They flush catheters to make sure they have no air in them before they go into the patient’s arteries or veins and they draw up and inject contrast into the patient’s arteries in order to see any lesions that show up on the fluoroscopy screen. They have to know what catheter, wire, medication, or tool that the doctor needs next and they need to know what pressure to inject the contrast as to not injure a coronary or cause an arrhythmia. They also need to monitor all waveforms of the different parts of the heart or certain artery at the same time. They help doctors place and inflate stents into patient’s arteries if they have a blockage and perform other angioplasties and balloon inflations to push the plaque to the ed
