What are the duties and responsibilities of the Rector?
The Rector is appointed by the Council to be the chief academic and administrative officer of the College. As such, he is its Chief Executive, chairing the Management Board, is ex officio a member of the Council and the Court, and is the Chairman of the Senate. He exercises considerable influence upon the development of institutional strategy, the identification and planning of new developments, and the shaping of the institutional ethos. Full details of the Rector’s duties and responsibilities are given in Ordinance D2. The Ordinances, which are approved by the Council, set out how the College is governed. The Acting Rector assumes all these duties and responsibilities until a new Rector is appointed.
