What are the divisions of the Hebrew Bible?
The Hebrew Bible contains three main sections: the Torah teachings (or Law), the Prophets, and the Writings or Hagiographa (pronounced HAG-ee-oj-AHG-re-fuh). The Law presents the writings attributed to the Jewish leader Moses (also called Moshe), who lived about the fourteenth to thirteenth century B.C. They recount the creation and traditions of Israel, the early experiences of the Israelites (Jews), and the lives of the leaders of Israel. The section called Prophets includes the books of Joshua, Judges, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and twelve other prophets (divinely inspired leaders). These books chronicle historical events and provide guidance. The section called Writings contains thirteen books that are believed to have been written by poets and teachers.
