What are the distinguishing features of KLAT2?
Several aspects of KLAT2 are new: • It is the first high-end cluster supercomputer based on AMD processors (700MHz Athlons). • It uses 3DNow! SWAR to accelerate scientific arithmetic. • It uses a new network architecture, a Flat Neighborhood Network (FNN), that yields spectacular performance at a very low cost. • It is the first supercomputer of any type to deliberately use an asymmetric network whose design was created and optimized by machine (more precisely, the network is the result of a genetic search algorithm).
