What are the disadvantages of using spot meter instead of using matrix or evaluating meter all the time?

You have to either find a medium toned area to meter off of, or meter off of a known reflectance that isn’t medium toned and dial in the proper amount of exposure compensation (like, say, snow and overexpose accordingly). Works great if you have enough experience to pick the right thing to meter, but it’s easy to screw up if you don’t.
