What are the disadvantages of using natural gas?
– Natural Gas is more expensive to store and transport than liquid fuels or coal. – Natural Gas produces the same green house gases and smog wastes as other fossil fuels; although in smaller quantities. – Natural Gas is not as energy dense as a liquid like oil so you need to have more of it to get the same power out of it. Natural gas like oil and coal is a hydrocarbon and when you burn it you are actually only burning the hydrogen and releasing the carbon which combines with oxygen to from the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide. Natural gas is cleaner than burning oil and both of them are much cleaner than burning coal, but they all came from the same source fossil fuels. Millions of years ago plant matter died and fell into an anaerobic condition (without air) like under water in a swamp. Over the years the material was crushed and converted into rocks like coal, or a liquid like oil, or a gas like natural gas. Natural gas has another problem in that its energy is not as dense as oil is;
