The disadvantage of silicone sealers are related to silicone molecular structures. Silicone molecules are full of hydrocarbon alkyl groups. Like all other hydrocarbon sealers, oil stains will be suck in the matrix of silicone sealers. Silicone sealers have no oil stain blocking ability. Other problem of silicone sealers are the decomposition by UV light of the Sun. Under outside application the life-span of silicone sealers are about 2-3 years.
