What are the disadvantages of DVD?
• It will take years for movies and software to become widely available. • It can’t record (yet). (See 1.14 and 4.3) • It has built-in copy protection and regional lockout. (See 1.11 and 1.10) • It uses digital compression. Poorly compressed audio or video may be blocky, fuzzy, harsh, or vague. (See 1.3) • It doesn’t fully support HDTV. (See 2.9) • Some DVD players and drives may not be able to read CD-Rs. (See 2.4.3) • First-generation DVD players and drives may not be able to read DVD-RAM discs. (See 4.3) • It can’t play in reverse.
