What are the disadvantages of 1k aerosol paints?
Polymer properties depend on molecular weights. High molecular weights are required for polymers that provide useful properties. That is why polymer science is called macromolecular science. However, high molecular weight thermoplastics are difficult to be dissolved in solvents. For increasing solubility, reduce molecular weight, and therefore, sacrifices properties. 1K aerosol paints form film after solvents evaporated. 1K aerosol paints made of thermoplastics contains typically 3-5% of solids. Low solids mean low coverage. Because there is no chemical bonding between thermoplastics and substrates. The lack of bonding means low adhesion to the substrates. Thermoplastics are re-dissoluble by many solvents. They are not resistant to solvent or chemicals. Other properties, such as weathering resistance, mechanical strength, etc., are very poor. That is why 1K aerosol paints are unacceptable for industrial standards.
