What are the disadvantages in using plastics?
Some of the answers above are pretty bad. Some plastics degrade into toxic things but most don’t. The fact that they don’t decompose means they have little effect on global warming. Ok so what are the actual disadvantages of plastics? Well there are two main ones. The first is they are made largely from oil which is a finite resource, we are using it much faster than it is naturally made in the earth and it will eventually run out – this is a problem as our lifestyle is so very dependant on it and plastics are a part of that. Yes burning oil products contributes to global warming but don’t mix up plastics with that. The other is waste, we use a lot of plastics and most of it isn’t disposed of in the best way in terms of the environment and conserving resources (they are disposed of in the most cost efficient/easiest way). We recycle more than we used to at the moment but a large amount of it goes into landfill. Some of them breakdown but not always into nice things which can sometimes
