I’m not sure how you mean this question but I think one of the disadvantages of the union of government and church was in the past when the government was attempting to civilize the American Indians. The church had the government convinced the heathens could not be civilized unless you first made them Christians so the churches were given the task of dong this and hundreds of boarding schools were opened by the church in which Indians were savaged in the name of discipline along with sexual abuse that brought death to thousands of Indian children under the guise of bringing them to a knowledge of God. It was like turning foxes loose in hen houses in the name of creating good for the chickens. Much, much more harm was done than good. A great disadvantage to the children. On the other hand the church was much more successful in feeding the starving masses during the great depression which was an advantage, at least for those who were hungry.
