The only disadvantages are ones you create yourself – by thinking that the cards have some sort of power to control your life, rather than simply giving you guidance for your life. For example, suppose you got a spread which suggested there may be a “negative” event coming up in your life, so you just went, “Oh there’s nothing I can do about that”. Whereas instead, you should be taking the advice the cards are giving you as to how to avoid that situation, or at least lessen its impact. If you mean seeing someone else to read your cards, a disadvantage would be when you take one thing they say, perhaps an off-chance remark, and build it into a philosophy to avoid responsibility.
