During the month of December, we have a lot planned for our class in a very small amount of time. We’ll try to keep things low-key as this can be a very hectic and stressful time for children. We’ll focus more on giving, the importance of family and friends and feeling good about the season. We’ll also try to curb some bad habits by introducing our Elf on a Shelf. We won’t know his name until the children pick one, but ask questions about him – or her – throughout the month. The elf sits in our classroom every day and then goes to the North Pole at night to give Santa a report. It’s a lot of fun for all of us! A few years ago, we began a tradition where the children take time to describe the ways that their families celebrate the holidays. This is a great way for the children to speak in front of a group and it is their special time. Our school family is becoming more diverse and so it is important to include all types of family traditions. Each child is assigned a special day. On that
