What are the differnces between dogs and wolves?
Genetically, dogs ARE wolves. Saw an interesting show on that. Apparently dogs are ‘expressions’ of wolf genetics. Behaviorally, however, they are quite different in some respects. Dogs have become domesticated and fairly dependant upon humans for survival. Wolves, on the other hand, have not been bred to live with man, and therefore have some ‘issues’ about living with men. (Actually, its us who have issues with them.) Dogs and wolves are both pack animals with a hiearchy of pack leader, pack mates, on down. Dogs will rarely challenge a person for authority (though they may take it if you are not ‘boss dog’ enough!). Wolves will challenge you; you must assert yourself regularly with them in order to remain ‘top dog’. Dogs usually don’t have a particular eating order (if for no other reason than multiple bowls). In wolves, the ‘boss’ wolf eats first, then the next ‘in command’, on down. If you’ve ever dealt with feral dogs up close and personal (LOL, I’ve still got some scars) — then
