There are many different role structures proposed by group experts. One of the most popular theories suggests there are 3 groupings of roles which tend to be adopted in teams. These are task roles, group building roles, and individual roles. Task roles help the group perform their task and include the roles of the Elaborator, Evaluator, Coordinator, Information giver and receiver, and Energiser. Individual roles hinder the group’s progress and include the roles of the Dominator, Recognition seeker, Evader and self-confessor, and Blocker.
