What are the Different Types of White Blood Cells in Our Body?
Produced by stem cells in the bone marrow, there are three basic varieties of white blood cell: lymphocytes, granulocytes, and monocytes. After formation, lymphocytes turn into T lymphocytes and B lymphocytes. Granulocytes turn into neutrophils, basophils, and eosinophils cells that help to stop pathogens. The third type of white blood cells, monocytes, become pathogen-eating cells called macrophages. Also aiding the immune system are natural killer cells, a type of white blood cell which destroys a variety of damaged cells such as cancer or tumour cells.
