What are the different types of thyroid cancer and who is at risk?
Papillary thyroid cancer is the most common type. It affects about 8 out of 10 people with thyroid cancer (or 80%). It usually grows very slowly and often spreads to the lymph nodes in the neck. Spreading to the lungs or bones is rare. It affects women three times more than men, and the typical patient s age is 30-50 years. If caught when the tumor is small (less than 1/2 inch), the cure rate is very high (almost 100% in young patients).
