What are the different types of tea?
There are four basic types of tea that come from the Camellia Sinensis plant. They are White, Green, Oolong and Black. White White tea is the most innocent form of tea. It is harvested for only a short time each spring and should only be of the first flush. True white teas come from South East China, or North Fuijian. White tea is made from the buds of the tea plant; it does not include any leaves. The bud is covered with a silvery coating similar to peach fuzz and is often referred to as ‘silver needles’. White teas undergo similar processing as green teas and are not fermented at all. They have a very mild flavour that is both subtle and refreshing to the palate. Green Green tea, traditionally produced in China, is now also commercially produced in Japan and Taiwan. Green tea is harvested continually and can be of any flush.
