What are the different types of stride / gait?
Walk: just like us, one foot on the ground at a time. Jog: Also trot. This is where the right front and left hind hit the ground together (right diagonal) and then the left front and right hind hit the ground (left diagonal). A horse can jog a mile in about six minutes at a good jog. Before a horse does his gallop / breeze he will jog first, perhaps about a half mile. Gallop: The rest of the type of exercise is simply determined by the speed of what the horse is doing. A steady gallop is usually something between 18 and 20 seconds per eighth. An open gallop is 15 seconds an eighth and a breeze is about 12 seconds an eighth (racing pace).
