What are the different types of retainers?
The kind we place in our office most often are the bonded retainers. These are cemented behind the teeth which makes them invisible! The old style removable Howley retainer was first invented in 1898 and isn’t used as much by our office. We also make Essix retainers which are worn at night. This kind of retainer looks like a bleaching tray or a thin mouth guard.
