What are the different types of research methods?
• Basic: This type of research is done in laboratories, including animal model studies – to analyze how current treatments work, and to develop potential new therapies. • Biomarkers and Imaging: Biomarkers are anatomic, physiologic, biochemical, or molecular parameters associated with the presence and severity of specific disease states. An important consideration in evaluating new drugs and devices is determining whether a product can effectively treat a target disease. Biomarkers and imaging may, in many instances, provide objective endpoints that may provide information related to treatment efficacy. • Clinical: Clinical research studies tests how well new medical approaches work in people. This type of research is done on human subjects – to test new methods of screening, prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of a disease. Interventional and observational research methods are types of clinical research; therefore these research methods are not necessarily mutually exclusive. • Interv
