What are the different types of races?
The three main classes of races are maidens/claimers, allowances, and stakes. Maiden Race (Pre-2008: GIII races) – Open to horses who have never won a race. (Purse will range from $10,000 to $25,000) Claiming Race (Pre-2008: GIII races) – Open to any horse, except stakes winners. All horses in this race may be claimed for a price specific to that race.
