What Are the Different Types of Psoriasis?
Most people suffer from plaque psoriasis, which consists of red, inflamed skin covered with silvery scales. Guttae psoriasis, small pink dots found mainly on the trunk, arms and legs is quite rare and usually triggered by a bacterial infection. Pustular psoriasis, another rare condition, is defined by small raised bumps filled with pus. Inverse psoriasis consists of smooth red patches found in skin folds like armpits, breasts and genitals. Sweat, yeast growth and skin rubbing together aggravates this condition. It is treated with retinoids and coal tar. Erythrodermic psoriasis, the most uncommon and serious form of psoriasis, covers most of the body with a bright red rash that itches and burns. It sometimes requires hospitalization, and can result in severe dehydration.
