What are the different types of diabetes mellitus?

Type 1 diabetes Type 1 diabetes usually affects children and young adults. Type 1 diabetes means that the body is not able to make insulin on its own. Only a small amount of all people with diabetes have type 1 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes Type 2 diabetes affects mainly adults but because of obesity, it is becoming more common in children and adolescents, especially from certain ethnic groups. When you have type 2 diabetes your body either doesnt make enough insulin or the cells in your body dont use it correctly or both. Most people who have diabetes have type 2 diabetes.
