There are two types of dental insurance: Dental PPO plans and Dental Indemnity plans. Dental PPO plans are the most common type of dental plan. With this type of plan you pay a deductible for services provided by in-network dental providers. You should note that if you choose to visit an out-of-network dentist, you will incur higher costs. With a Dental Indemnity plan, which is also referred to as private dental insurance, you choose your own dentist. This type of plan pays the provider on a traditional fee-for-service basis. You pay a monthly premium, which then reimburses the provider for services rendered.
