· Producer or marketing cooperatives-frequently owned by farmers to market agricultural products. · Consumer/retail-called consumer co-ops because they are owned by consumers (people who consume or buy things). · Worker/Employment-in these co-ops the workers also own the business. · Housing-people jointly own and live in these co-ops, including houses, townhouses, mobile homes and apartments. · Service-these co-ops are built to provide the members with a special service, such as a health clinic or daycare. · Financial-a credit union is a financial cooperative and it provides services similar to a bank, but it is owned by the members.
