What are the different types of containers available?
The most common for Seafreight: General Purpose Container – This is the most common container and is used for carrying all most kinds of containerized cargo. High Cube General Purpose Container – Same as above with 6 inches of extra Height. Reefer Container – This is a temperature controlled container which is used for carrying goods at specific Temperature. High Cube Reefer Container – Same as above with 6 inches of extra Height. ISO Tank Container – This type of container is used to carry liquids and gases Flat Rack – This is container used for carry cargo that would not fit into a General purpose container in terms of height or width. Open Top – This is a container with no top and is used for cargo that is over height. The most common containers used today are 20’ an 40’ with internal dimensions of 5.9 x 2.34 x 2.35 meters and 12.03 x 2.35 x 2.38 meters respectively. For airfreight, Airlines make use of Unit load devices (ULD’s) and Pallets.
