What does this mean? Flat topped is a short-hand description of the how the guitar body is constructed. Steel String means that the strings with a steel core are used, even though the windings on the four lowest sounding strings will be made of a golden colored bronze alloy. Dreadnaught is a body size, in this case a fairly large body size. Its not mentioned, but assumed in this description that the guitar has 6 strings, though a guitar shop will no doubt have some acoustic guitars with 12 strings. Size Because the body of an acoustic guitar is its sound source, size and construction of the body is critically important to how it will sound.
