What are the different legends on how a person becomes a vampire?
Many cultures form around the world hold stories of how one becomes a vampire. The Romany(or gypsies) believe that people who commit suicide, practice witchcraft, or die tragic deaths become vampires. Also, if a black cat or black dog jumped over a body before or during burial, the person would come back as a vampire. For centuries, people of India and Thailand have believed that witches or people who betray the Hindu goddess Kali will become vampires. In many places in Europe, people who contracted the Black Plague and died from it, people who did not receive proper burial, suicides, or witches would become vampires. The ancient Egyptians believed people became vampire-like if they made pacts with the god Set, who was the Egyptian version of the devil. There was even a lion headed goddess named Sekhmet who was goddess of vengeance and drank the blood of people’s enemies.
