What are the Different in Congenital Heart Defects in Newborns?
Congenital heart disease is present at birth; it is caused by an anomaly with heart development before the baby’s birth. The American Heart Association says that every year approximately 35,000 babies are born with heart defects. There are many different kinds of congenital heart defects which cause congenital heart disease. Some defects have to do with the aorta, and others have to do with septal defects within the heart. Some babies with congenital heart disease recover over time, with medications and/or surgeries, while others may succumb to the disease. Some babies are born with congenital heart defects that may not cause symptoms until the child is older, while other children may have symptoms that are apparent, but can be managed throughout the child’s life, and into adulthood.
