No it’s not just an american thing. Pretty much every country that has gymnastics has a levels system of some sort to t6rain its gymnasts. What the system is and what happens in each level will vary greatly from country to country. In the USA the main system goes from level 1-10 and then elite. Most gyms will offer some sort of pre levels or beginners program that needs to be completed before you begin the levels system which teaches you the basics. The lower levels (level 1, 2 and 3) are training levels. There are routines and skills required at those levels but USAG does not offer sanctioned competitions. However there are other places like the AAU that do offer competitions, especially for level 2 and 3. And most gyms will run their own unsanctioned club competitions for the lower levels. It will depend on where you live but some gyms will compete these levels and some will not. I beleive this will change in the next few years and USAG will begin to offer level 3 sanctioned comps, t
