Before anybody can dig in New York State, they have to call for a utility markout called code 753. A code 753 is when utility companies are notified to come out to the site where work is planned and mark out their underground utility lines. This is done to avoid damage to utility lines during construction. If you need to call in a code 753 request, you may do so by calling 1-800-962-7962.
