What are the different class of Servant in the regency era?
I started this once and it was too disjointed to make sense. By class of servant, I assume you mean the different ranking the servants in a household would have. The higher class the household, the more servants and the more complicated the rankings. I won’t go into royal ranks of servants, because there just isn’t room on Yahoo answers, this is nearly the same for any member of the aristocracy. 200 or 300 servants for a large estate isn’t unheard of at this time. Assuming you mean a middling rank of family – a well-to-do person, such as Jane Austen’s Emma – Emma’s father would have a steward who ran the entire estate, and who was responsible for budget for the estate. The steward would supervise the housekeeper, the groundskeeper, the butler, the stable and interact with all the tenants of the estate. The housekeeper supervised the kitchen, the maids, the nursery staff, and the laundry staff – she would also be responsible for procuring foodstuffs, the still room, the nappery and all
