Some preachers insist that we completely cease to exist after death. They say that we will have served the purpose of our existence. In which case, party on! Some preachers insist that we “become one” with God and lose our individual identities and consciousness. I have a hard time distinguishing this from the first opinion, in practical terms. Some preachers insist that we become useless angels kissing up to God forever. Not much of an incentive, if you ask me, unless the only other alternative is burning forever. Some churches find it convenient to preach that we lose our gender, our very form, and become shapeless spirits. OK ….. Some churches hit very close to the mark when they teach of theosis, or our becoming divine to a greater or lesser degree. They are not far from the kingdom of God.
