What are the differences in the grades of wood flooring?
Grade is what determines the appearance of the wood. It does not have to do with the strength and durability. There are six common grades – Clear, Select, Common (No. 1 and No. 2), First, Second, and Third. These all have different levels of allowable characteristic and imperfections such as knots, mineral streaks, pin holes, and so on. Check with your manufacturer to find out what grades they use and what characteristics are allowed in these grades. Grades can also vary from the country of origin in which the material is from.
