What are the differences between Virgin Coconut Oil and refined coconut oil?
Virgin coconut oil is made from fresh mature coconuts. Other coconut oils are produced from copra. Copra is coconut that has been dried in the sun or over fire, which lowers the quality of the coconut oil and must be refined before eating. The refining process uses high heat and chemicals to filter the oil and destroys many of the natural properties. Not only does refined, bleached, deodorized (RBD) oil taste and smell poor, it is produced by farmers in many areas that are paid around $7 per day for hard labor.
